The Game Ball

Oh, wow! It's already the last day of September and I've only posted once this month. My ideas in starting this blog, that I share with no one, were to journal a little each day and to try and remember the crazy/adorable/memorable things that happen each day with L and C and our family life. So much for posting every day...

Anyway, the update: Both are loving school. I'm so thrilled with all that my L is learning. He knows all his letter sounds and is quickly learning to write them. He's started spelling a few words on his own. Yay! I still am so glad his Daddy and I decided to keep him in the 3 day class and avoided the whole pre-K deal. Whew! Such a dilemma it was!

C continues to enjoy school, and I miss her while she's there, but am able to get my work done on Tues. mornings and attend a Bible study at church on Wednesday mornings. Actually, I should be working on Wednesday ams, too, but I justified the Bible study in that it is only 8 weeks long, and I can take a break from work for a bit as our taxes were just completed (work taxes, always file for the extension).

I continue to grapple with wanting another child. I watch my babies grow, and I'm excited to see each new stage, but I still have that nagging incomplete feeling. Z still has a very complete feeling. He tells me he doesn't think we should switch from man-to-man coverage to zone defense. Definitely a sports fan!

Now, on to the post's title. My little man is playing fall t-ball. Not pre-t like the spring. This is the real deal--3 pitchers from the coach, making outs, learning positions, etc. So, we missed the first game due to a long-planned trip for the kids to my mom's for the weekend. She gets so little time off, we couldn't change our plans because of the season's start date. Anyway, his first game was on Thursday night. He plays in the outfield...right I believe (I get confused on right and left field because I never know who's right or who's left...but he plays behind first base). At this age, not many of the opponents can hit it past the pitcher's mound, and my L desparately wants to be a man of action. So, his dad taught him to back up first base on every play--that way, L's actually getting to move around and pay attention. So, he backed up 1st on EVERY play. He even got his hands on the ball a couple of times and made 1 out. He also got on base once from a great hit. He hit another to another player and was tagged out on his first at bat (they only get about 2 bats due to time limits). But, at the end of the game, the coach decided to give out a game ball signed by all the kids to one of the assitant coaches who leaves for another tour in Iraq today. Then, the coaches decided that the kiddos should get in on the game ball action. SO, the coaches conference together (hubby is NOT a coach, which makes it even better), and my little man received the first game ball given out for being so willing to hustle for the team (and of course, it couldn't be without notice that he begs each and every batter to hit the ball to him b/c he's ready to make the play)!. Oh my, was he so proud! (And so was I. I couldn't believe the lump in my throat. Oh, how he loves that game ball...
